Accessibility Statement for Davington Primary School

Davington Primary School is committed to making our website accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We want all visitors to be able to use our website with ease and have a positive experience.

Accessibility Features

We strive to ensure that our website:

  • It is fully navigable using a keyboard and assistive technologies such as screen readers.
  • It uses clear and simple language to ensure information is easy to understand.
  • Provides alternative text for images, so visually impaired users can access important content.
  • Clear and legible fonts, sufficient colour contrast, and adjustable text size to enhance readability.
  • It uses high-contrast colours and resizable text for better readability.
  • Ensures videos and audio content include captions or transcripts where possible.
  • It is responsive and designed to work on various devices and screen sizes, including desktop computers, tablets, and smartphones.

Ongoing Efforts

We regularly review our website to ensure it meets the latest accessibility standards, including the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at an AA level. We are committed to making continuous improvements based on regular audits, user feedback and technological advancements.

We are continually working to improve the accessibility of our website by:

  • Screen reader compatibility: Whilst our website design includes functionality that works with screen readers, we may need to make some improvements by working with our website provider.
  • Regular audits and user testing: We commit to annual audits and user testing.
  • User feedback: We will incorporate feedback from users to enhance accessibility.
  • Keeping up-to-date: We will endeavour to keep up to date with evolving accessibility standards and best practices.

Compliance status

The website is partially exempt from the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 standard due to the exemptions and non-compliances listed below.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations (School exemption)

We are continuing to work on our website, but there may be some parts of our website that are not fully accessible:

  • Older PDF documents may not be fully accessible through screen reader software.
  • Embedded Google Maps are not accessible within the site.
  • Any forms with bespoke styling on the site may not be accessible.
  • We are unable to modify the line height or spacing of the text on some content.
  • We endeavour to ensure that, where needed, we include alternative text for any images. If any images do not have a text alternative, so people using a screen reader cannot access the information, we will rectify this if notified.
  • We endeavour to ensure that, where needed, we include frame titles, captioning and transcriptions for any videos. If any videos do not have a frame title, captions or transcriptions, so people using assistive technology cannot access the information, we will rectify this if notified.
  • We endeavour to ensure that, where needed, we include appropriate use of links and ensure that links are descriptive. If any links are not descriptive, so people using a screen reader cannot access the information, we will rectify this if notified.
  • We endeavour to ensure that, where needed, tables have the appropriate headings set. If any tables do not have defined headings, so people using a screen reader or keyboard navigation cannot access the information, we will rectify this if notified.
  • We endeavour to ensure that our brand colours meet the contrast ratio for the corresponding text size. If any text does not meet the contrast ration, so people with visual impairments cannot access the information, we will rectify this if notified.
